Redfish Trip
Saturday was a very nice day to be out on the water in the Lafitte area. I had the pleasure of fishing with Loyce Grigsby and Omar Muhammad, who were both great clients to fish with. We left Lafitte Harbour Marina at about 7:30 am and headed out to one of my favorite areas for Redfish. The weather was beautiful for the first day of March, No wind and pretty blue skies. It was a little cool for the 20 minute boat ride, but was very comfortable when we stopped to fish. Ms. Loyce and Omar told me they were having a fish fry that night with some friends, and needed a few nice Redfish. We stopped in a shallow duck pond that I like to fish from time to time. With the winds calm we saw Redfish waking down the bank as soon as I stopped the boat. I put the trolling motor in and went after some of the wakes we saw. For the first few minutes none of the fish would bite a bait we placed in front of them. Then finally one of the Redfish that was tailing in about six inches of water, jumped on a Purple and white Reaction Lure 3″ Bayou Chub minnow I placed in front of him, and the first fight was on. We boated three Redfish from this one shallow pond, before trolling on to another area. We saw many Redfish waking down the banks and running past the boat as we trolled along through this narrow bayou, only to have them watch the baits go by over and over again. This was very frustrating to have so many Redfish watch a bait go by, but we see this many times. If there is no tide movement, or a high pressure sitting in, and dirty water, you will have a tough time catching Redfish in most of the areas of Louisiana marshes. And this was one of those days we had all of those factors working against us. But we did not give up and kept casting to Redfish we saw waking down the banks. We managed to catch our limit of Redfish over 27 inches, which is one per person, and 8 really nice slot size Redfish as well. All and all the day was a great success. We had a wonderful day on the water, and I had the chance to meet and fish with some very nice people, and would like to thank Loyce and Omar for booking with Crecent Ctiy Fishing Charters and Myself Capt. Scott Poche`. I look forward to fishing with you again in the future.
