Sat. June 27th
One of our good friends and client Mark Gundlach brought his friends Ed, Dudley and Doug from MS. to catch some Redfish, and CATCHING is what we did. We left Lafitte Harbor Marina at 6:00am and headed out for the Turtle Bay/ Little Lake area, in search of some hungry Redfish. Our first stop was a good idea, as I was busy tying on some gold spoons, we saw a nice Redfish waking right up to the boat, I grabbed a rod with a gold spoon on it and pitched it out in front of the red, and sure enough he hit it and ran, I handed it off to Ed and the fish managed to spit the hook at the boat. I finished tying the spoons on and put the trolling motor in, and bam! We had a red on, one keeper for the box. Not long after that we had a few more that landed in the fish box. We saw a few schools of 10 to 20 Redfish came down the bank and we hooked doubles and triples a few times. It did not take long for us to get our limit of 25 Redfish in the box. We caught and released another 15 or 20 Redfish that morning, all before 11:00am. We took a ride to another area we have been catching some really big redfish, only to boat 2 or 3 nice reds in the 26” to 27” range, that we released to fight another day. Another great day of catching Redfish and showing these guys New Orleans Fishing At Its Best!

I want to thank Mark, Ed, Dudley and Doug for booking with us and we look forward to fishing with you guys again soon.

Wensday June 24th
Today I fished for Capt. Todd D and his clients Ellis Oswald and Amy Daniel. We left the Lafitte Harbor Marina at 6:30am and headed out for the Turtle Bay/ Little Lake Area. Our first stop we caught one keeper Redfish and threw one little one back. I decided to move on to another area where I have been catching some BIG Redfish, and sure enough this was the spot, we caught out limit of 15 Redfish and threw back another 15 or so really nice reds, all before 9:00am in the morning. We caught and released a few more reds before heading out in search of a few Speckled Trout. We did not have much luck catching trout with the tide slacked and the wind blowing. So we decided to head back to the dock and beat the heat, and go clean a nice box of Redfish.
I want to thank Ellis and Amy for booking with us, I had a great time fishing with you and look forward to doing it again soon.

Another Lafitte Success

Monday June 22nd ,
Today I fished with an ole friend and client Mike Epler and his wife Melissa, and Steve and Rebecca Hall. They are all from the Monroe, LA. Area, and Mike has fished with me in the past, but this time he brought his wife and friends to down for two days. Sunday they fished with Capt. Alden B and did well, They had their limit of 25 Redfish in the box by 11:00am and were back relaxing at the dock for noon.
On Monday we wanted to catch some Speckled Trout , but the wind that morning was blowing out of the northwest at 15mph, and it makes Barataria Bay very choppy with a wind that stiff. Speckled Trout do not bite well with choppy water, so we headed out for Turtle Bay/Little Lake area in search of Redfish. We made a few stops and hit it big, we caught 22 Redfish on one shoreline, to start filling the fish box . At around 11:00am we noticed that the wind had calmed down a bunch, so we headed out to barataria Bay. On our first stop we caught a hand full of specks and threw a few small trout we threw back, we started working the birds and did well catching 53 Speckled Trout and 3 nice white trout. We ended the day with a grand total of 22 Redfish, 53 Speckled trout , 3 White Trout and 2 Black Drum to fill the fish box.
I want to thank Mike, Melissa , Steve and Rebecca for booking their fishing trip with me this year, and I look forward to fishing with them in the future, and as always this was “ New Orleans Fishing at Its Best”.

Billy, Paul and Ben Simm’s Trip

Sunday June 21st Fathers Day!
I fished with a friend and client Billy Simms and his two sons Paul and Ben, from Madison MS. They have booked with me in the past, but have had bad luck with the weather and we have had to cancel on the day of the trip on a few occasions. But this trip was not the case this time.
When I showed up to the dock Sunday morning, Billy and I both were happy to see that there was no rain and thunderstorms in the forcast. We left Lafitte Harbor Marina at 6:15am with the wind blowing northwest at about 15mph. Billy had asked me about catching Redfish and mabye some Speckled Trout after we had a limit of reds, if we had time. So we headed out for the Little Lake/ Turtle Bay area, in search of reds. Our first stop we caught a few nice reds, but did not do as good as the days before. So I decided to go try a few other areas. we picked up a few reds everytime we stopped the boat at a different spot. But we finally hit the honey hole, we boated our limit of 4 BIG Redfish over 27″ inches, and released a few more 27″ to 29″ inch reds that we could not keep, with Paul cathcing one red 30″ long we released to fight again. At one time we each had a redish on the line at the same time, only being able to keep one for the box. After we caught our daily limit of 20 Redfish, 3 Black Drum, and a Flounder that Ben caught on a gold spoon. we then headed out to Barataria Bay to look for a few Trout. When we arrived in the bay, we found many groups of bird working near Grand Terre Island, just east of Grand Isle. We caught 18 nice keeper trout and threw back 20 or so undersize trout in about an hour, before heading back to the dock in time for the guys to get cleaned up and checkout for the 2:00pm checkout at the Lafitte Harbor Cabins. I had a great day fishing with Billy and his sons Paul and Ben, and look forward to doing it again in the future. Thanks guys, and as always this was New Orleans Fishing At its Best!

Benny, Jill, Hillary and Seth’s Trip

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with some really wonderful people, Benny and Jill and Seth and Hillary, from Mississippi and Alabama.
We left Lafitte Harbor Marina at 6:00am and headed out to the Little Lake/ Turtle Bay area, where we have been doing really well with Redfish for the last few weeks. On our first stop we only caught one keeper red and a one undersize red. I decided to go and try another area that we have been doing well catching Redfish, and it turned out to be the honey hole. Jill and Hillary hooked a double not long after we stopped the boat, only to have Jill’s huge red get off just before I could get it in the net. She was very upset, and after we teased with her and a little kidding around, she did manage to catch another red that measured 28 inches. The first red Hillary hooked was a 29 ½ inch beauty that she was really proud of. Seconds later, Benny hooked a nice 27 inch red that we put in the box as well. It did not take long before we had our limit of 5 big Redfish over 27 inches, and were hoping for smaller fish we could actually keep. Seth caught a few really reds as well. There were a few times we had 4 Redfish on at once, this is always fun to watch, while everyone scrambles around the boat trying to keep their lines from getting tangled with one another. And I have to say, these ladies sure gave the guys a run for their money on this trip, Jill and Hillary put a bunch of Redfish in the boat. At 10:45am we had a limit of 25 Redfish, 3 Black Drum and releasing another 10 to 12 reds that were over 27 inches that we could not keep to fight another day. After catching our limit of Redfish, we decided to go out to Barataria Bay and try to catch a few Speckled Trout, only to find the tide at a slack and the trout bite kind of slow. We boated 10 Speckled Trout before heading back to the dock to clean fish. All in all we had a great day of fishing, and as always this was New Orleans Fishing at Its Best!
We caught all the Redfish on H&H gold spoons, and 30lb PowerPro line. The Trout were caught on Glow H&H Beetles with a ¼ 0z jig head fishing tight line around the oilfield platforms in Barataria Bay.
I want to thank Benny, Jill, Hillary and Seth for booking their trip with myself Capt. Scott Poche`, and Crescent City Fishing Charter Inc, and I look forward to fishing with you all in the future.

Mango’s Bachelor Party Trip

Mango’s Bachelor Party trip

I received a call from Andrew asking me if we could do a fishing trip for a bachelor party for 11 people, and the answer was ABSOLUTELY! since we have 9 boats available it was not a problem. These guys were from the PA. area and were staying in New Orleans for the weekend celebrating Mark (aka) Mango’s bachelor party. So we made arrangments with a shuttle service to pick the guys up at the hotel and bring them down to Lafitte, LA. for a day on the water. Andrew also asked if we could have a fish fry when we came back to the dock, and I agreed we would have everything set up and ready to fry fish that we caught that day. We had a great day, Capt. Mike Mc, Capt. Keith C, and myself Capt. Scott loaded up the 11 guys Mango (the bachelor), Andrew, Brian, and George went in my boat, Jeff S, Greg, Jeff Mac, and John went with Capt. Mike. And Ken, Wissam and alan went in Capt. Keith’s boat.
It was a good day of catching Redfish, even though the wind was blowing 15mph from the northeast. All together we caught 60 or so Redfish, and a few black Drum to fill the fish boxes.
We came in to the dock at 1:00pm and while Capt. Mike and Capt. Keith cleaned fish, I set up the fish fryer and battered the fish as they came off the cleaning table, nothing like fresh fried Redfish and French Fries. When everyone had their fill of fryed fish, they loaded up on the shuttle bus and headed back to the hotel in New Orleans. Another successful bachelor trip with a fish fry to go with it. This is a fine example of New Orleans Fishing At Its Best!
I want to thank all the guys for booking their trip with us, and Good Luck to the bachelor Mango on his wedding day. I look forward to fishing with you guys in the future.

A Lafitte Grand Slam
June 17th Grand Slam.
I had the pleasure of fishing with Dick and Debra Frohn from Mc Comb MS. It was their 37th wedding anniversary, Debra had never been fishing before and Dick had booked with me in the past, only to be rained out several times. They were well over do for a good trip, and this trip was a GRAND SLAM. We caught 75 Speckled Trout and 15 Redfish to fill the box, with releasing another 15 or so Redfish to fight another day. I think we will be seeing Dick and Debra on more trips to come.
Thank you folks for booking with me, and I look forward to fishing with you in the future. This was another trip that was New Orleans Fishing at its Best!

Capt. Alden B had a group of guys Manuel and Jeff he took out today who booked with us, They asked to catch Redfish, and catching is what they did! They had their limit of 15 Redfish and released a bunch more before 11:00am as well. Great job guys!

Ray and Mason Champagne’s Trip

June 16, 2009 by scott

Tuesday June 16th
Today I had the pleasure of fishing with and old friend and client Ray Champagne and his son Mason who is 11 years old. Ray asked if I knew a place that we could go and catch some Redfish, so that Mason could experience the fight and pull on the line of a Redfish. We left the dock from Lafitte Harbor Marina at 6:30am and headed out for a place I have been catching Redfish in the Little Lake area just about everyday. We pulled up and threw the cajun anchor pole down, and baited our lines with market shrimp on a jighead with a cork. This is an easy way to catch Redfish when you have kids. At first all we caught were undersize reds, and after about 4 or 5 cast the frenzy was on. We caught a Redfish almost every cast for about an hour, Ray and I really enjoyed watching his son reel in a Redfish one after another. Mason told us he had to take a break and sit and have a drink, because he was too tired to reel in another fish. I hope todays trip catching Redfish made a angler out of Mason, and he will want to come back and catch Redfish again soon, and I look forward to fishing with him and his dad in the future.
I want to thank Ray and Mason for letting me be part of their father and son day. This is a day I will not forget, and I hope Mason will remember this Redfishing trip for a LIFETIME! As always this is New Orleans Fishing at its Best!

SUNDAY JUNE 14TH
Mike Dileo called me and wanted a trip to fish for Redfish. Mike, Drew, Vince Dileo, Glenn Bourke and Myself Capt. Scott left the dock with Redfish on the menu. The first stop we made was in Lake Salvador, with only boating a few small fish and one nice keeped. I decided to head south and try the Little Lake area and see what we can catch. The first stop was a good one, we caught 20 or so reds and only keeping 13. I headed south to Coffe Bay area only to boat one nice fish. after a few more stops, we hit the honey hole. We boated 7 really nice reds, only being able to keep 5 reds that were over 27 inches, releasing a few more Redfish that were over 30 inches to fight another day. And catcing a few more nice fish before going to the dock. We ended the day with a nice catch of 22 Redfish to fill the fish box. Great job guys! EDG Company Rodeo Trip

June 15, 2009 by scott

EDG had a company rodeo sat. June 13th and requested to book 4 boats, I had Capt. Mike, Capt. Kory, Capt. Chet and myself Capt. Scott Poche` that fished for the rodeo. Between the 4 boats we caught and released over a 100 redfish. One of the boats wanted to catch trout, but they did not do so well with the wind blowing out of the west at 15mph. So they joined us catching Redfish for the day.
Most of the Redfish were caught on gold spoons, but when they quit biting in the middle of the day, we decided to use market bait and continue to catch fish. Even myself Capt. Scott used market bait when the bite slowed on artificial baits. This is something I do not usually do, but sometimes tough times call for tough measures. And yes I did get ribbed for it from all the guys, since I come from the ole bass fishing days, and do not like to use market bait unless all else is avoided. But it was a great day of fishing, and another great day on the water with a good bunch of guys Tj, Brad and David.
Thanks again guys, It was a pleasure fishing with you, even though your winning sheephead stuck me in my legs. ” I really dislike those things”… I have posted a few pictures of the 20 Redfish, 3 Sheepshead and 1 Black Drum we kept for the day.
I want to thank the whole crew at EDG for booking with us and hope everyone had a great time. All the food and hospitality was enjoyed by all, I look forward to next years rodeo and fishing with all of you in the future.
