JOHN & JOYCE’S TRIP

FRIDAY, MAY 6th, 2011

Today I fished with John and Joyce from Connecticut.  After battling the winds over the last 5 weeks, today was the first day in May that proved itself.  We launched from Lafitte Harbor Marina at 7 am and headed out to Barataria Bay.  With the winds light and variable and the water clear, it was a perfect day on the water.  We headed back to the dock with our boat limit of Speckled Trout, 12 Reds and a Black Drum.

With days like today, it will only get more exciting!

I would like to thank John and Joyce for booking their trip with us and look forward to fishing with you again.

 MAY 4th, 2011

Today I had the opportunity to fish with Ted and Jennifer from Chicago, IL.  We launched from Lafitte Harbor Marina at 6:45 am.  With a nice chill in the air and winds blowing out of the north at 25-30 mph, it was a rough start.

Although, the winds and low and dirty water was a challenge, we managed a decent day with 9 Reds.

Thank you Ted and Jennifer for booking your trip with us and I look forward to fishing with you again.

I want thank Michael and his family for booking their trip with us and look forward to fishing with you again in the future.

The McDonald Family Trip

August 28, 2009 by

Tuesday Aug. 25th

I received a call from Ramone Mcdonald Jr. asking me to take him, his mom and dad out on a fishing trip for his dad’s birthday. He wanted his dad to enjoy his birthday catching Speckled Trout and having a good time on the water. We left the Lafitte Harbor Marina around 6:15am and headed south for Barataria Bay. The weather was almost picture perfect for trout fishing, the wind was calm, the tide had a good range and there was no rain in the forcast. When we arrived in Barataria Bay near Goverment reef we found many groups of Seagulls working the surface. They were chasing the shrimp that the trout chase to the surface. We caught 57 keeper trout and threw back many undersize trout, before heading south to try and catch some larger Speckled Trout. After making a few stops in the south end of the bay, we found a few more nice trout on a reef near Four Bayou Pass. We caught 20 more keeper trout and and six really nice Redfish that were chasing the shad along the shoreline.
Ramone had fished with me a few days prior to this trip and we limited out by 9:00am with 50 Speckled Trout. He and I both had a bull red on the line that morning, but his bull managed to break off and I landed my fish. He made the comment if he caugth a bull red, he was going to have it mounted, because he has never caught a Redfish that big before. This was the day to try and catch a bull with the wind calm and the gulf being slick as glass. I decided to run out into the Gulf of Mexico about a half a mile and see what we find. This is a good time of the year for catching bull reds if they are schooling on the surface. Well we found them doing just that, there were hundreds of Redfish in the 25 to 40lb class busting the surface chasing baitfish. I ran up to the school and Ramone, Julie and Ramone Sr. quickly had a bull red on the line. They were all excited to see so many fish in a school and to have one on each of their line. Ramone caught a 41 inch Redfish he kept to be mounted, Julie and Ramone Sr. Caught two really nice bulls that were over 25lbs. Julie’s first bull was 44 inches long and was close to 35lbs. They caught and released 10 bulls before we decided to go back to the marsh to catch some keeper size Redfish. I went to a shoreline where I have been catching some really nice reds, and the action was on, we caught 18 Redfish before heading back to the dock.
As the pictures will show, this was New Orleans Fishing At Its Finest!

I want to thank Ramone, Julie and Ramone Sr. for a great day on the water and look forward to fishing with them again soon.
