Wednesday July 1st

The Trout and Redfish action has been as HOT as the weather in Lafitte. If the winds are low and we have any moving tide at all, we are doing well with the Speckled Trout.

Today I fished a friend and regular client Rene Lapotaire and his Son Kyle, and daughter Andrea from TX.
We left Lafitte Harbor Marina this morning around 6:00am on our way out to Barataria Bay. The winds were calm for a change, and the water was pretty and clear, we also had a little incoming tide when we reached the bay, but it went slack not long after we made our first stop at Government Reef, there were big groups of birds working on the oyster reefs, and we caught a few nice trout until the porpoises came through and chased away the nice trout, then all we caught for a few minutes were throwbacks. So we moved on to our second stop near Coupe` Belle Pass, this was the HOT SPOT for us this morning, there were shrimp popping out the water and trout jumping out the water after them. We caught a trout almost every cast for an hour. We limited out with 100 Speckled Trout and a few White Trout at 8:30am. All the trout we caught today were caught casting artificial H&H glow Beetles with a 1/4oz jig head, and fishing tight line.
After catching a limit of trout, we headed back to Turtle Bay to try and catch some Redfish. On our first stop we caught 3 reds and 1 Black Drum. We made a short run to fish a shoreline I have been doing well on for the last few days, and we caught 7 reds there before deciding to head in and clean some fish and get out the heat. We ended the day with 100 Speckled Trout, 10 Redfish and 1 Black Drum to fill the fish box. And as always this was NEW ORLEANS FISHING AT ITS BEST!

I want to thank Rene, Kyle and Andrea for booking their trip with me again this year, I look forward to fishing with you again next year, and fishing with Renee and the guys in Oct. , I had a great time today, and I hope we made a memory for a lifetime.
