Sunday Aug. 9th
I had the pleasure of fishing with a great guy Catfish Brousard from Toledo Bend area. We left the dock at Lafitte Harbor Marina at 6:00am and headed south to try and catch a few nice Redfish, and that we did! we ran and fished an area near Hackberry Bay that I have caught Redfish in the past. This is a shallow water marsh area where when the water is decent you can see the Redfish tailing in the grass. For the first hour or so we did not do very well, we watched the Redfish swim by our baits and not many bites. I caught 4 redfish on a Black/ Charturese Tail Bayou Chub Minnow, while Catfish threw a spinner bait with a Electric Chicken cockahoe. The spinner bait was not doing well, so head changed to what I was throwing and we started catching fish. It was slow with not much of a tide range. You need a moving tide to catch Redfish in the marsh. They will not bite very well if the wind is calm and the tide is slack. But we did manage to catch our limit of 10 Redfish and threw a few back before heading in for about 10:00am. There were a few nasty looking thunderstorms all around the area, and we did have to seek shelter from a friends camp for a few minutes. When the rain passed we went back out and finished our limit. Catfish was ready to go in when we had our limit, but the rain was stopping us from making it back to the marina. So we fished for a about an hour till the rain moved off and it was safe to head to the dock. We had a good day catching Redfish, and I enjoyed fishing with Catfish Brousard. He is a great guy to fish with and I look forward to doing it again in the future. And as always this was New Orleans Fishing At Its Best!
