The Higgins Redfish Trip

The Higgins Redfish Trip

Friday July 10th
Today I fished with Jeff Higgins and his two sons Jeffery and David from Atlanta, GA. We left Lafitte Harbor Marina at 6:00am and the guys said they wanted to catch Redfish and they did not want to keep anything we catch, so we headed out to Little Lake area where we have been doing well with Redfish for the past few weeks. On our first stop we saw many Redfish tailing in the shallow grass beds, but they were not very aggressive and would not bite anything we threw at them. The tide was still and the winds were calm and not much was going on. We threw gold spoons at Redfish we saw moving down the banks and tailing, but only caught a few fish that would fall prey to a gold spoon. So I decided to make a move to another shoreline and we caught a few more Redfish before making another move that was the honey hole. We boated and released 45 to 50 Redfish for the day. We lost count at 40, but we know that we caught close to 50 Redfish total for the day that will get to fight another day.

I want to thank Jeff, Jeffery and David for booking their Redfish trip with us at Crescent City Fishing Charters Inc. and fishing with myself Capt. Scott Poche`, I look forward to fishing with you guys again in the future, I had a great time and hope to see you again soon. This is New Orleans Fishing At Its Best!

The Crowly fishing trip

The Crowly fishing trip

Wednesday July 8, 2009
Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Tim Crowly and his two sons Josh and Jonathan. We left Lafitte Harbor Marina around 6:30am this morning and headed out for the Little Lake area, we were hoping to find some schooling Redfish that I have been seeing for the past few weeks. But with the wind blowing at 15mph from the southwest, we did not see the schools I have normally been seeing. There was also a few rain showers brewing around us for the early part of the morning, but they pasted through without getting us too wet. We fished in the rain for a few minutes and did catch a few reds while it was raining. When the rain ended we did the best, catching our limit of 20 Redfish and hooking and releasing one 6 to 7 foot Alligator that tried to eat my gold spoon while we were trolling along the bank. This is always fun trying to get an Alligator off the line when he comes to close to the boat. But I unhooked him and we took a few pictures before I let him swim away. This is New Orleans Fishing At Its Finest!

I want to thank Tim, Jonathan and Josh for booking their trip with us at Crescent City Fishing Charters. I had a great time fishing with you today and look forward to fishing with you guys in the future.

A birthday trip for Mr. Don

A birthday trip for Mr. Don

Monday July 6th

Today was one of those windy days you do not like to see when you want to try to fish Speckled Trout, The wind was blowing 15mph and gusty from the southwest, I had a good friend and client Scott Drago, who called and wanted to take his father Don Drago Sr. and his brother Don Jr. out for a trip to celebrate his fathers 76st birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr. Don!
We headed out for Barataria Bay to try and catch some Specks, but the water was too choppy and dirty from the wind blowing. I ran to the west side of the bay, only to catch a few throwback trout and one nice keeper trout Mr. Don caught. After making a few stops and nothing going on, I decided to run over to Little Lake area, where we have been doing great with catching Redfish, this way we can salvage a windy day by hopefully filling the fish box with Redfish. And as luck has it, it was the right idea.
We boated 13 really nice reds before getting chased back to the dock at about 11:45am, by the thunderstorms moving into the Lafitte area. We had to make one stop on the way in at a camp to get out of the rain, but it did not last long and we made it back to the dock safely, not long after we returned to the dock, it rained the rest of the afternoon. But we did manage to catch a nice box of fish for Mr. Dons’ birthday trip. And as always, this is New Orleans Fishing At its Best!

I want to thank Mr. Don Drago Sr., and his two sons, Scott and Don Jr. for booking their fathers birthday trip with me, It was a pleasure fishing with you guys, and I hope to see Mr. Don for his birthday trip again next year, and I look forward to fishing with you in the future.
Check out the pictures from our trip.

4th of July Redfish & Speckled Trout Excitement

4th of July Redfish & Speckled Trout Excitement

Friday, 3rd of July & Saturday, July 4th

Capt. Todd and I had the opportunity to fish the 4th of July holiday with Nathan Sprouse and his great group of family and friends from Mississippi. The busy day on the water did not hinder our catching of 20 beautiful Redfish by Capt. Todd and his crew and 25 nice Redfish, 55 trout and a Drum and Flounder by Capt. Scott and his crew in the Little Lake, Turtle Bay and Barataria Bay area.

On Saturday, July 4th we headed out to Little Lake/Turtle Bay with anticipation of a repeat. By noon our friends from Mississippi totaled 45 beautiful Redfish. What a way to celebrate our Independence! I want to thank you all for a fun filled and exciting two days and we hope to fish with you guys in the future. We had a great time!
